SPACE FIBER™

ZBLAN has been around almost as long as Silica.  ZBLAN's unique properties – a wider transmission window and lower optical loss – enable light to travel further and faster, outperforming traditional silica-based fibers.  The problem is that it is very tricky to manufacture.  Many leading optical companies have tried to fulfill ZBLAN's superior performance against Silica but failed.  What they did not have is SPACE, the only place where gravity-induced defects can be eliminated in ZBLAN.  Working in microgravity, the team at Flawless have unlocked the path to fulfill the full potential of ZBLAN and revolutionize the optical glass industry.

MANUFACTURING IN SPACE

​Flawless Photonics is the only company to successfully manufacture commercially viable lengths of optical fiber in micro-gravity, pulling over 11 kilometers at the International Space Station and returning it to Earth.  Additional supply missions will enable us to produce even more in the future while we work with other in-space manufacturing partner to increase productivity.
